The Gigabyte B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 is a micro ATX AMD B850 motherboard with a feature set that makes it well-suited for mid-to-high-end AM5 PC builds.

AMD's “Zen 5” Ryzen 9000 series of processors have been around for some time now, where they were first launched a year ago, back in August 2024, followed by the high-end X870E and X870 chipsets for the AM5 platform in end-September 2024 and the mid-to-entry-level B850 and B840 chipsets in January 2025. This was then followed by the introduction of the brand's successful 9000X3D series of gaming processors in November 2024 and March 2025.

If you're looking to build a mid-to-high-end AM5 PC build in the micro ATX form factor, the Gigabyte B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 should be on your radar, given that it packs premium features such as a 12+2+2 VRM setup, PCIe 5.0 support for a graphics card and two M.2 drives, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and built-in WIFI 7, a premium audio codec as well as a laundry list of special features such as Sensor Panel Link and so on. Do note that PCIe 5.0 is supported only when a Ryzen 9000 or Ryzen 7000 series CPU is installed on this motherboard - the Ryzen 8000 series of APUs/CPUs only support the PCIe 4.0 standard.

Board Aesthetics

Aesthetics wise, we see that Gigabyte has gone for a black and light grey aesthetic, where we get a black coloured PCB and black heatsinks with liberal amounts of grey accents.

Over on the rear of the board, Gigabyte's included some AORUS motifs for added visual interest - a nice touch I must say, despite the fact that most of these motifs would likely never see the light of day inside of a PC case.

Fans of integrated aesthetic LEDs for their motherboards will be pleased to note that Gigabyte has included RGB LEDs beneath the chipset heatsink, where we also get an illuminated “Team Up Fight On” motif on the chipset heatsink assembly - this sure adds a touch of pop to the overall appearance of the motherboard.

For good measure, the integrated I/O shield shroud also comes with an illuminated RGB accent, as pictured above. The board's RGB lighting effects can be controlled via the Gigabyte Control Center app from within Windows.

While we're still on the topic of heatsinks, Gigabyte's included a single rectangular heatsink that's shared by the B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7's dual Gen5 M.2 slots, and we get a passive heatsink for the B850 chipset as well.

VRM & Memory Support

The VRM heatsinks for this board are decently-sized, and Gigabyte's included 12+2+2 power phases with 80A power stages.

The B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with four DDR5 slots that as of the time of publishing this article, supports up to 256GBs of RAM and the DDR5 8600 standard when overclocked, with plastic slots of a single-tab design.

Front Panel USB Headers

For front panel USB connectivity, Gigabyte's included a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C front panel header next to the RAM slots, and a single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A front panel header that can be found along the long edge of the board,. The said header provides support for up to two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports.

Also included are two USB 2.0 front panel headers situated along the bottom edge of the motherboard, with each header providing support for two USB 2.0 Type A ports, for a total of four ports.

Expansion Slots & Storage Options

For your graphics card, the B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a graphics card – the said slot features Gigabyte’s "PCIe UD Slot" design that reinforces the slot for use with heavy graphics cards.

The slot also comes with the PCIe EZ-Latch Plus feature, which helps make removing a graphics card from the slot a breeze - pressing on the button pictured above will cause the graphics card retention tab to be disengaged for the removal of your installed graphics card.

Rounding things off in the expansion slots section is a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot that operates at x4 mode.

Moving on to all things storage, the B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with four SATA III ports located along the side of the motherboard...

...and we also get two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots, where both these slots support M.2 NVMe drives only - M.2 SATA drives will not work with any of these slots. Once again, a reminder that PCIe 5.0 is only supported when one has a Ryzen 9000 series or Ryzen 7000 series processor installed – the Ryzen 8000 series of APUs/CPUs only support the PCIe 4.0 standard.

The board's M.2 heatsink features a tool-less design called M.2 EZ-Latch Click, which makes removing and installing the said heatsink really easy. The M.2 slots also come with a quality-of-life feature called M.2 EZ-Latch Plus, which makes installing and removing a M.2 drive from the B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7's M.2 slots a breeze.

Audio & Internet Connectivity

Powering this board's audio is a Realtek ALC1220 audio codec, where Realtek is also tasked with internet connectivity as well, at least for this motherboard. We've got a RTL8125D controller serving up 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, and a RTL8922AE WIFI 7 module doling out wireless internet connectivity alongside Bluetooth 5.4 support. Do note that the RTL8922AE module supports the 160 MHz channel width, and not the "full fat" 320 MHz channel width commonly found on higher-end WIFI 7 parts.

Fan & RGB Headers

The B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with six fan headers:

• 1x CPU_FAN
• 1x CPU_OPT
• 3x SYS_FAN
• 1x FAN_PUMP

Also included are three Gen 2 addressable RGB headers and a single 12V RGB header.

Other Features

A feature that's commonly found on Gigabyte's higher-end motherboards, we get a reset button next to the RAM slots that Gigabyte also terms a multi-key button. The said button can be reprogrammed from within the BIOS to serve other purposes. Right beneath the multikey button is an additional reset header that can be hooked up to the reset button of your PC case.

Also included are a set of Status LEDs that can help with troubleshooting PC start-up issues.

A feature worth highlighting is Sensor Panel Link, which allows end-users to install a small LCD display screen as part of one’s PC case, where the said screen can be used to display vital PC statistics or even animated videos. This screen would be hooked up to a HDMI 1.4 port that can be found along the edge of the B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7, where it supports a maximum display output resolution of 1920x1080@30 Hz.

Finally, over on the bottom edge of the board, we get a TPM header for an optional discrete Gigabyte TPM module, as well as a clear CMOS header.

Rear I/O

The Gigabyte B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with an integrated I/O shield design, where the I/O shield comes with parallelogram-shaped ventilation openings. The following ports can be found on the rear I/O:

• 1x HDMI 2.1 port (supports a maximum display resolution of 4096x2160 at 60 Hz)
• Q-Flash Plus button
• 4x USB 2.0 Type-A ports
• 5x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports
• 1x USB Type-C port (display-capable and supports the DisplayPort 1.4 standard with a maximum output resolution of 3840x2160 at 144 Hz - with a Ryzen 8000 series APU installed, the port supports up to 40 Gbps of data transfer, otherwise, with a Ryzen 9000/7000 series CPU, the port supports up to 10 Gbps of data transfer)

The Q-Flash Plus feature allows end-users to update the motherboard's BIOS without needing to install a processor, RAM and graphics card.

Conclusion

To sum up, the Gigabyte B850M AORUS PRO WIFI7 comes with a pretty good set of features as a motherboard that’s targeted at end-users looking to build a mid-to-high-end microATX AMD AM5 PC. In this regard, we get a VRM setup that should handle the entirety of AMD’s AM5 processor line-up with ease, PCIe 5.0 support for both a graphics card and a M.2 drive, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet with built-in WIFI 7, a plethora of USB Type-C and Type-A connectivity options, along with a whole bunch of interesting and helpful features such as Sensor Panel Link, EZ-Latch Plus and so on.

One downside worth noting is the fact that the board uses a WIFI 7 module that doesn’t support the full 320MHz channel width that you tend to get with higher-end WIFI7 modules. This is something to take note of especially if fast WIFI7 networking is one of your key considerations.
