Despite being an ATX 3.1 power supply unit that was released back in September 2024, Seasonic's Focus GX ATX 3.1 (Focus GX V4) line-up is still well-worth your consideration if you're looking to build a mainstream-to-high-end PC in this day and age.

For today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at a fully modular ATX 3.1 power supply unit from Seasonic – the Focus GX ATX 3.1. Also known as the Focus GX V4 in certain parts, the GX ATX 3.1 line-up is available in black or white colourways, feature 80PLUS Gold certification, and is available in 750W, 850W and 1000W variants. Let’s unbox the black 850W variant of the Focus GX ATX 3.1 and take a closer look at its specifications to see if its any good.
Packaging
In terms of packaging, the PSU comes shipped in a rectangular box with Seasonic’s signature black and gold colourway, with information on the specs of the PSU peppered on all sides of the box.
We get the following accessories with the PSU:
- $50 Steam gift code lucky draw promotional leaflet
- User's manual
- Power supply installation guide
- Plastic cable ties
- Velcro cable ties
- 4x PSU mounting screws
- PSU tester device
- Power cord
- Cloth bag containing PSU modular cables
Aesthetics & Physical Features
First impressions of the Focus GX ATX 3.1 850W, it’s pretty compact with a depth of just 140mm and should hence fit very easily in most PC cases with no issues at all. In case you’re wondering about its exact dimensions, the PSU measures in at 150mm x 86mm x 140mm.
In terms of aesthetics, the Focus GX ATX 3.1 has a pretty ordinary aesthetic, where we get your usual power switch, power cable connector and ventilation openings on the front of the PSU. We also get a "Hybrid Mode" button that when activated, enables the PSU’s "Digital Hybrid Fan Control" mode, which is basically a fan-less operation mode.
Over on the rear, we get your usual modular connectors for the various cables that the Focus GX ATX 3.1 comes with, and on the left and right sides of the PSU, we get the Seasonic logo and series of PSU printed on.
On the top panel of the PSU, we get a sticker with detailed specs of the Focus GX ATX 3.1 alongside the usual regulatory and warning notices, and over on the bottom panel, we catch a glimpse of the 135mm FDB cooling fan through the slat-like ventilation openings that look pretty nice aesthetics-wise, all topped off by a Seasonic badge right above the fan hub.
And with that, let’s move on to look at the cables that come included with the Focus GX ATX 3.1, specifically, the 850W variant. Again, we do get some minor variations in terms of what cables come included with the GX ATX 3.1 line-up depending on which wattage you decide to go with, as per the chart that you can see above, which also has the respective lengths of the cables that come included with the PSU.
Some features to point out about the PSU cables, they all feature a braided-pattern design that feels premium, and Seasonic’s included dual-coloured 12V-2x6 connectors for the graphics card power cable. This is a great feature to have for sure, seeing how the 12VHPWR connector design’s gotten a bad rep with countless stories of melted connectors, especially when improperly inserted into the corresponding power connectors of power-hungry cards such as the RTX 5090 and RTX 4090.
In that regard, the blue-coloured portion of the connector will fully disappear if the connector is properly inserted into the 12VHPWR connector of your graphics card. If it’s improperly inserted, you’ll be able to see a tinge of blue, which serves as a visual warning that the connector is not fully inserted.
Also, the connector seems sturdily built, where the pins embedded within the housing of the 12V-2x6 connector do not move at all even if I were to wiggle the cables a fair bit, which should go a long way in helping to make sure that the connector’s properly seated within your graphics card’s 12VHPWR port.

Let’s run through the specs of the Focus GX ATX 3.1 line-up of power supplies real quick. We get three power options to choose from, 750W, 850W and 1000W. The PSU is really compact in size, where it has a depth of just 140mm, making it really suitable for PC builds where space is an issue. Also, the GX ATX 3.1 line-up is, surprise surprise, ATX 3.1 compliant, conforms to the 80PLUS Gold standard in terms of efficiency, and features a 135mm fluid dynamic bearing fan for cooling, where it comes with a silent operation mode that I’ll talk about shortly.
For added peace of mind, the 750W and 850W variants of the Focus GX ATX 3.1 come with the Cybernetics Platinum rating, while the 1000W variant comes with a Cybernetics Gold rating, which is really reassuring to see - Cybernetics is an independent third-party certifying body for PC hardware components such as PSUs.
One feature that Seasonic touts with the GX ATX 3.1 line-up is the fact that the PSUs come with a patented “Digital Hybrid Fan Control” feature that allows the PSU to operate in a fan-less mode under low power loads, which helps reduce noise levels and extends the lifespan of the cooling fan. End-users have the choice of enabling or disabling this feature by activating the switch pictured above.
Another feature that the Focus GX ATX 3.1 line-up has is OptiSink 2.0, which is in reference to a new PCB design that utilises smaller MOSFET and heatsink components, thereby creating more space within the PSU for heat dissipation, leading to cooler operation temperatures, better efficiency and improved reliability.
Rounding off this section on PSU specs, in case you’re unaware, Seasonic does design and manufacture its own PSU designs, and the Focus GX ATX 3.1 is no different. In fact, Seasonic does serve as the OEM for a couple of other branded PSUs out on the market, and if anything, this is indicative of the quality of the PSUs that they produce!
Build Experience
The setup experience with the Focus GX ATX 3.1 850W was as smooth as smooth gets, where I installed it as part of a demo PC build that utilises a Lian Li Vector V150 INF micro ATX PC case. Owing to the fact that the PSU has pretty compact dimensions, getting the PSU into the case was a breeze, and running the respective modular cables to where they needed to go was pretty easy too.
Conclusion & Pricing
To sum up, the Seasonic Focus GX ATX 3.1 power supply unit seems to be a pretty well-built PSU in a compact package to boot. The quality of the included modular cables is great, and I appreciate the fact that the PSU comes with a fan-less operation mode and a 10 year warranty for peace-of-mind.
In terms of pricing, the 850W variant that I have here in this video is available to purchase in Singapore for a price of around $209 Singapore dollars – for you international viewers, this PSU is available from online retailers such as Amazon and Newegg for a price of around US$140.
