ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Graphics Card - Unboxed & Tested

Is the successor to AMD's Radeon RX 6700 XT worth your dollar?

The AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT GPU was launched on 10 May 2022 as part of the Radeon RX 6000 series (RDNA 2) refresh, and is in essence, a RX 6700 XT with 1) higher clock speeds, 2) faster 18 Gbps memory and unfortunately 3) a higher power draw figure. For today's article, ALKtech unboxes and benchmarks a graphics card sporting the RX 6750 XT GPU -  ASUS's ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 (ROG-STRIX-RX6750XT-O12G-GAMING).

As a card from the Republic of Gamers line-up, the RX 6750 XT OC Edition packs a beefy triple-fan cooling solution sporting Axial-tech fans, a metal backplate for increased card rigidity, and a mesmerising RGB light strip, which significantly enhances the aesthetics of the card. It also comes with dual BIOSes that allow users to toggle between a "P" (performance) mode and a "Q" (quiet) mode, as well as a factory overclock.

With 3DMark Basic Edition, the RX 6750 XT achieved a graphics score of 13673, with an overall Time Spy score of 12252.

Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (Basic Edition)

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Unigine

The card scored 4080 for Unigine's Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (Basic Edition), with an average FPS of 162, a minimum FPS of 42.6 and a maximum FPS of 361.2. The test was run on the maximum possible graphics settings, with DirectX 11 rendering on Ultra Quality, extreme tessellation, stereo 3D disabled, multi-monitor disabled, and anti-aliasing set at x8.

Gaming Performance

Cyberpunk 2077 Benchmark

Cyberpunk 2077 is a go-to game to put graphics cards through their paces when it comes to ray tracing performance, and with v1.5 of the game, CD PROJEKT RED introduced a built-in benchmark tool which was used to test the RX 6750 XT's performance.

When set to the Ray Tracing Ultra preset, the benchmark saw the RX 6750 XT attain an average FPS of 24.82, a minimum FPS of 11.20, and a maximum FPS of 35.22.

Lowering the graphics settings to the Ray Tracing Low preset, we see the card put out an average FPS of 66.98, a minimum FPS of 30.05, and a maximum FPS of 87.52 - indications that the RX 6750 XT can indeed be used to play Cyberpunk 2077 with decent framerates at 1080p resolution with some ray tracing features switched on.

AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) was switched off for all runs of the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark.

Far Cry 6 Benchmark

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Far Cry 6 Benchmark

Far Cry 6's built-in benchmark test sees the RX 6750 XT achieve an average FPS of 99, a minimum FPS of 67, and a maximum FPS of 144. The Ultra graphics preset was used for this test, with ray tracing and AMD's FSR switched off.

Forza Horizon 4 Benchmark

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Forza Horizon 4 Benchmark

Forza Horizon 4's built-in benchmark tool sees the RX 6750 XT score an average FPS of 136.3, a minimum FPS of 117.2, and a maximum FPS of 181.1

Fortnite Actual Gameplay

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 Fortnite Epic Preset

To round up the gaming tests, a round of Fortnite saw the RX 6750 XT put out an average FPS of 126, a minimum FPS of 80, and a maximum FPS of 179 when set to the Epic preset, with ray tracing switched off.

To test if the RX 6750 XT is capable of handling ray tracing at decent framerates, ray tracing was switched on, with Shadows set to "On", Reflections set to "Low", Ambient Occlusion set to "Low", and Global Illumination set to "Low". With these settings, a further round of Fortnite saw the card achieve an average FPS of 57, a minimum FPS of 16, and a maximum FPS of 91. Do note that the minimum frame rate of 16 was due to a sudden FPS drop at the beginning of the game that could have been as a result of network connectivity issues - the game was otherwise very playable at these settings.

Conclusion

ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6

The ASUS ROG Strix RX 6750 XT OC Edition 12GB GDDR6 is positioned at the higher end of RX 6750 XT-powered graphics cards, and deservingly so. This is given its sleek aesthetics and excellent cooling solution, which is quiet, and yet able to keep temperatures low while under heavy workloads. Power draw during all benchmark tests was also below the RX 6750 XT's rated TDP of 250W, meaning to say that users could potentially get away with using a lower-wattage power supply of good quality (perhaps only slightly below ASUS's recommended 750W). Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed that for the tests above, a 620W power supply from Seasonic (M12II-620 EVO) was used, and no stability issues were encountered at all during the said tests and benchmarks.

That being said, one bone for contention (and certainly in no way a fault of ASUS's) would be the raison d'être of the RX 6750 XT in AMD's product stack - as a RX 6700 XT with slightly higher clock speeds and faster RAM, can the GPU justify its ~US$550 recommended retail price, especially since RX 6700 XTs can be had for around US$480 as of the time of writing? Only time will tell, as the dust starts to settle for graphics card prices post-crypto boom.
